Certifications

Certified to AS 4736 for industrial composting (verified by the Australasian Bioplastics Association)
Certified to EN 13432 for industrial composting (verified by DIN CERTCO, Germany)

End of Life

Where appropriate composting infrastructure exists, certified compostable packaging can contribute to circular economy outcomes by supporting greater diversion of food waste from landfill, including food scraps attached to packaging. End-of-life outcomes depend on local infrastructure. We recommend confirming local acceptance before making compostability claims.

AS 4736 and EN 13432 include requirements that total fluorine content does not exceed 100 ppm, alongside declarations of no intentionally added PFAS, as referenced by the Australasian Bioplastics Association and DIN CERTCO.

Our CPLA coffee cup lids are certified compostable to the AS 4736 and EN 13432 standards for industrial composting, which requires the product to:

1) disintegrate after 12 weeks, and

2) completely biodegrade after six months. (This means that 90% or more of the material will have been converted to CO2. The remaining share is converted into water and biomass – i.e. valuable compost.)
