Is your business prepared for the July plastic bans?

The government is phasing out hard-to-recycle and single-use plastics to address plastic pollution and as part of a broader ambition to move Aotearoa towards a low-waste economy.

For guidance on the bans, download your guide.

As of 1 July 2023, it will be illegal to manufacture, sell or distribute the following:

  • Plastic drinking straws

  • Plastic cutlery. It also includes cutlery that is integral to the packaging of a food product (e.g., cutlery sold with single-serve ice cream or salad packs)

  • Plastic tableware includes single-use plastic bowls, plates and platters
If your business uses any of the above plastic products, get in touch to discuss certified compostable options. Email us at
